:confused: i want to develop input program of Uighur(one language which is very like Arbic and have almost 100 letter),i have TrueType font of Uighur that is already able to use in gnome .but i don't know how to begin this work. i am very thankful for you with that you spare some time to tell me how to begin or how to find corresponsing information.my email address: miaochen_75@sohu.com

It can depend upon the distro you are using and you didn't mention what it is.

I'll give an example that should work for Redhat.

If you are in your user's account command su - to become root.

Basically, you put the <name>.ttf file in the truetype directory the X server is using. Place the file in /usr/share/fonts/default/TrueType (or whatever place your distro uses, see your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file or similar for exact placement)

Then command:

ttmkfdir > fonts.scale
mkfontdir

Finally, re-start the x font server

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart

You should be able to use them now.

I have made the linux show Uighur letter ,but now I need a program to input ,show and edit Uighur. Uighur have almost 100 letters and usage of this language is very like arbic. and I need

I use redhat linux 8.0 .I means I need a program to input Uighur and make the text edit program, for example gedit , to show and edit Uighur,I have made the linux show Uighur letter in desktop and menu by means of translate the .po file under windows 2000 environment ,and i want to develop a inputing program by myself to input Uighur, can you tell me how to begin programing and how to find corresponding information.
