I'm trying to install RH8 on a standalone computer using cds from my RH8 Bible. The install goes perfectly until I reach the part its trying to copy the files from the cd to the harddrive. When it says "Transferring install image to hard drive" to hard drive it just freezes solid. The cds are all ok accoring to the media check also. Heres the computer I'm trying to install on:

P3 667
Asus CUV4X motherboard
384 mb generic pc133 ram (I currently don't have that in there since I'm having install troubles, I instead am running 128megs of pc133 ram from my old Dell just to eliminate the possiblity of cheap ram causing my problem)
Samsung 24x cd
Toshiba 5gb hdd
Maxtor 13gb hdd (main linux drive, if it ever installs)
Riva TNT

A note: when it freezes I can still move around the mouse, but its just dead in the water. I let it set there for 45 minutes thinking it was doing something or might come back after a while, no luck.

Thanks!

Hi,

What type installation are you running? server, workstation?

Did you select automatically partition?

If yes did you select remove all partitions on this system?

For disk configuration did you just accept the defaults?

Hey,

I'm just selectiong home installation, then unchecking everything cept xwindows and gnome just to see if I can get the OS to load. Theres lots of other things I want to install, but until I can get it to work I figure less is more...

Automatic partition.

Yep, remove all partitions.

Yep, defaults on just about everything.

This is a really weird problem. I had RH8 installed as a dual boot using the same cds before and everything worked fine, actually it was the same computer I'm trying to put it on now.... Also for the record it says it paritions the hard drive fine, just when it gets to "Transferring install image to hard drive" it just freezes.

hmmm..

Well it seems you are trying a minimum install.

I'd be a little skeptical of that 128 stick of ram have you tried the 384 mb generic pc133 ram ?

Either ram or swap space my best guess

Good Luck....
