All I want is a 256MB PC100 SDRAM, and I find tons of different ppl with tons of different prices... does the quality of the RAM matter or is there a good name brand to stick with?

However, I don't stress too much over what company I buy RAM from, as long as it isn't one of those companies that seems fly-by-night like. Names like "Bob's RAM" are signs. tallulah 02-18-2001, 01:55 PM I buy generic but am sure to read the fine print. :) jrbush82 02-18-2001, 01:59 PM any specific name brands that anybody goes by because they are happy with their results? speddling 02-18-2001, 02:00 PM I've been buying all mine lately from Crucial (http://www.crucial.com) the prices are good and free second day shipping. I'm ordering 2 - 256mb cl=2 PC133 sticks tomorrow for $96.29 each. Not the best price on the web... but fair... and they are a division of Micron I've got their sticks in a couple of boxes with no problems Aikidoka 02-18-2001, 02:39 PM Look at your motherboard's documentation. Sometimes the RAM you can buy has to be a certain type and configuration. For example, i have a VIA Apollo 133 Pro and if I want to use a 256 or 512 DIMMS they have to be of a certain type. Check your documentation before you go out buying, it'll save you a headache later on. jrbush82 02-18-2001, 02:54 PM the documentation says it has to be Intel 100mhz compliant, 168-pin DIMMs with gold plated contacts with a maximum size of 256 MB. FoBoT 02-18-2001, 04:39 PM i have always bought the cheapest generic and had no problems my rule of thumb is to match it with the other components. if it is a cheapo case with a cheapo mobo, cheapo everything, then why would i spend more on the ram? if i am getting a nice big name mobo, fancy case, etc, then i will look for something more in the ram as well $.02 cha-ching :D ps my limited experience with linux has made me think that linux is more sensitive to poor ram than winders, so i may start paying more attention to what ram i buy, now [ 18 February 2001: Message edited by: FoBoT ] Derango 02-18-2001, 07:46 PM Crucial makes awesome memory.
