I can't seem to get my serial mouse to work under slackware 8.1...
i have tried about every option offered in xf86config and they all do the same thing: as soon as i touch the mouse, the curser goes to the top right corner of my screen in X (KDE 3.01 i believe)
Is there anything else i could try? i tried mouseconfig too but it didn't do anything either.

In addition to John T's suggestion, tell us what type of mouse you chose during the installation.

Had the same problem...I chose Intellemouse during installation, but this choice isn't available when you configure X.

You may have to manually edit your XF86Config file. In the meantime, remember you can still use keyboard commands.

Post your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, specifically the "Core Pointer Section".
