this post isn't about problems installing them, not yet anyway. I just need to know- Is it a huge problem if I install the GLX files before the kernel files?

thanx

I always install the kernel package first, but today I forgot and installed GLX first.

Didn't seem to make a difference at least for my distro.

alright, i went ahead and installed the kernel drivers, and got a lengthy error message, which i have attached. I'm running Mandrake 9.0 on the following system:

Athlon XP 2100+ (pally)
GA-7VAXP
256MB PC2700
Geforce3 Ti 500
WD 40GB&60GB

To make things easier for you, download the RPMs from nVIDIA (http://www.nvidia.com) and then see nVIDIA news (http://www.nvnews.net) for install procedures ;)

Nvidias NVChooser script is also very handy. It ensures that you have the correct rpms for your system.

Just D/L and run, then make sure you have the best packages for your sys (it's on the D/L page)

Personally, I wouldn't use the RPMs, as they don't work in a lot of cases. If you want to try, go ahead, but be warned.

Your "long list of error messages" is because you NEED to have kernel-source installed. If this is RedHat, you also need to configure it, but you're running Mandrake, so I don't believe you need that. If you still get errors after installing kernel-source (make SURE the version of kernel-source matches what uname -r prints, BTW), post the new ones.
