try xmovie, im not sure if its included in mandrake or I downloaded it, but just do a google search for it. its works rather efficiently, it wont play AVI or Divx files tho. :(

I personally use noatun (KDE Multimedia Player) for MPEGs, and aKtion for everything else. Both come with mandrake 8.

Yeah, what mdwatts said, and also aKtion is just a front end for xanim (afaik), and xanim has shaky support for mpegs.

I strongly encourage you to consider using
MpegTV for viewing Mpeg, mpeg2, and mpg video.

AVIfile is the DivX choice for most Linux based multi-media enthusiasts.

MpegTV (http://www.mpegtv.com/)

AVIfile (http://www.gnuchina.org/ftp/linux/multimedia/video/avifile/)
