Mandrake 7.2
After a forced hard reset, I am having trouble with my machine.
Firstly when I started GNOME I got an error message along the lines of "Cannot find internet address for <hostname>, adding <hostname> to /etc/hosts might solve the problem."
In /etc/var/messages I noticed the line :
rpc.statd[***]: gethostbyname error for <myhostname>
Also postfix throws up a few errors all like :
postfix newaliases: fatal: My hostname <myhostname> is not a fully qualified name - set myhostname or mydomain in /etc/postfix/main.cf
PINE also complains that my mail domain is incomplete and any mail I send will have the wrong return address.
I am no Linux or Net expert but my best guess is that the machine cannot find a domain name. I have a cable modem (at eth0) which is bound to DHCP. Only problem is I have no idea what's really going on or how to fix it ! Any ideas ? This is really driving me crazy !
Thanks in advance
David
