I have an HP ZE4145 laptop and am searching for drivers for the ATI Radeon Mobility IGP 320M chipset. ATI doesn't seem to provide drivers becasue:

"The display driver supplied with a given notebook has been customized for:

the built-in flat panel display any other graphics or video options installed in that specific computer.

As a result of these modifications, ATI CustomerCare is unable to offer "unified" drivers for notebooks."

Does anyone know of any possible solutions to my problem? I was hoping the new XFree86 4.3 would have the drivers I need, but I have tried the most current beta and it doesn't have what I need. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry as I don't know of any.

All I could find with a G4L search was these for ATI Radeon Mobility IGP 320M (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=ATI+Radeon+Mobility+IGP+320M&btnG=Google+Search) and the ATI driver site.

Anything mentioned about the IGP 320M on www.xfree86.org ?

Most of the ati radeon drivers with the xfree86 they will be add on just before the final release, everybody waits for that, does your drivers come in a standard edition (i.e. non mobility cards) if, then you can try those cuase they are quite similar but you have to play with some tricks which I am afraid I do not know

Was this supposed to be in the ATI Radeon Mobility Drivers (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89191) thread?

If so, it can be moved. If not, well, this doesn't really make any sense on its own... ;)

Looks to be that it was a response to this thread. I've merged the reply into this one.

Ahh, I see your another victim of the ATI Radeon IGP Chipset. Fun, isn't it?

Here's just some information for you to jot down.
As of XFree86 v4.3.0 - No Driver Support
XFree86 Latest CVS or 4.3.0 Patch - Radeon IGP Supported in 2D Mode ONLY.

As far as Accelerated/3D/DRI Support is concerned, as far as I am aware of, there doesn't seem to be a lot of progressing going on or I am just not looking in the right direction. Partial cause ATI is being very uncooperative to help the Linux Community Out.

---------------

Not Sure which OS You are running, but if it is RedHat (Any Version) you can easily pickup the XFree86 Pacakge upgrade. Just checkout the 'RawHide' Tree and download the Proper XFree86 Packages version 4.3.0-10. Thats what I use and 2D Works Beautifully.

Go to www.rage3d.com/forums in 'Linux' section for all your ATI needs.

Hope it helps.

Well this may or may not be good news. But anyway here it goes.

I've got the hpze4125 (just below your laptop)

and I've installed Knoppix (it was the only distro that was able to fully probe all my hardware cept for my wireless card, still working on that)

and I haven't really had any problems with knoppix. But just for your info redhat 9 was also able to probe my video driver, but was unable to see my monitor. The Driver it found was the ATI Radeon Mobility U1.

hope that helps, linux on these laptops is a mixed blessing. Also you might want to check out this website http://www.hussar.demon.co.uk/linux/hpze4125.htm

He installed Debian (similar to knoppix for those of you who don't know) and has had some problems, but he's got everything working just fine! :)

anyway good luck!

*sigh*, that makes me feel real good about my brand new ze4400 laptop. If everything works fine in knoppix will it not work in red hat? Or is there a way I can take the driver off knoppix and put it on red hat? Just a random thought because most things work fine in knoppix but I want to install red hat.
