I am a complete and utter linux noob. But due to a comp project i have to have it =/

Anyway... i have got redhat 8 Cds all 5 of em etc etc etc.

I set it to boot from CD and it does fine get to the select language/keyboard prompt and then when it asks where me linux files are i say Local CD and it then says no Linux CD detected? But i just booted the installation from it?

Any ideas?

The cd drive is a Hitachi DVD-ROM GD-2500 if that helps?

Anyway any help very much appreciated.

PS. I know the CDs are fine as my m8 has installed RH off them =/

I had a DVD that wouldn't install any distro. Could yours be a dodgy drive like mine was?

Do you have another CDROM drive you could try?

No :(

But the drive isnt dodgy as atmi have win2k on here and the fact it gets me to the langauge selection screen and then keyboard selection... then just dosent pick up the linux files on the CD which it just booted from :(

What is the DVD drive connected to, secondary master/slave?

Does your bios properly detect the DVD?

Hi,

It is possible cd#1 could be bad. If you have access to a burner you could go to here ->http://www.linuxonly.cx/distributions/ and download disk1 iso image and burn to cd.

Just a thought....
