Could not get modem to work in RedHat7.1!

I want to get online through Redhat's xwindows desparately. I have a retail plus fax modem for windows, is there ANY chance I can get it working under Redhat so I can go online?

Redhat just wouldn't detect it, even though I configured the correct port.

If RedHat can't detect it then it is probably a software modem (winmodem), this will in most cases work only on windows unless you can find a driver for it on the net. Ummmm.... I would just get a hardware modem. You can get a list of suggested hardware modems on linux.com, or you could go through the posts here. I know that there was one on this subject yesterday.
