8.0 i was on average idling with 60-70 mb free , now in 8.1 im running with 120 mb free , is this cause of the new kde ??
if it is i hope its a issue they are addressing in the next KDE build

...isn't...having more memory free, better?
Maybe I'm just confused.

your post shows 8.1 taking less memory not more. I assume this is a mistake.
with the 2.4 kernel these figures are not very important. the kernel marks memory as used even though it doesn't use it right away. it marks this as used so that if it _does_ want to use it, it can do that really quickly.

You can cut back on how much RAM is being used. If you head into the daemon's (look in Control Center) - you can shut off the ones you don't need. Also - just like Windows, shut down anything in the bottom right hand corner of the screen that is running that you don't need. (Klipper and KAlarm are two that I've shut off.)
