I recently installed SuSE 7.0 on my system. After a few days of trying to get my pci modem recognized, I found a paper with the modem saying that it requires kernel 2.3 and higher. So, I downloaded the new kernel (2.4.0) and installed it. Everything works fine, except that now when it goes to start x windows, the screen just goes blank. I think it may have something to do with my vid card (nvidia RIVA TNT). I included support for my card when I configured the new kernel, although it is still considered experimental. Any ideas on what may be wrong? The card works fine under the old kernel, and it automatically detected it during installation. I noticed in the /etc/lib file under 2.2.16 that there is an nvidia module in there. Perhaps I should install this under the modules for 2.4.0? Can I just copy this file to the folder? Thanks in advance....

I think (please correct me if I'm wrong) that that driver is for the DRI (Direct Rendering Interface) thing in XFree86 v4.0, and so won't work with anything lower. So, either make sure you have XFree86 v4.0 installed, or take that module out.

I have a Riva TNT 2 M64 (basically the same crappy card) and it locks up (in windows) when my screensaver turns on. (O:

Solution:

Get a new video card
