The most important thing I use my PC for is Task Management (a.k.a To-Do List). I've been using Microsoft Schedule+ for this for about 10 years. I want to switch to Linux; but the Linux PIM's I've found lack key features that I depend on every day. Most notably:
- Tasks can only be assigned a limited number of priorities. Hi, Med, & Lo in the case of Ximian Evolution and 1 thru 9 (I think) in the case of KOrganizer. This doesn't seem to give me the flexibility to juggle the changing priorities of everyday life. A simple 1or2 digit field on every task record would suffice, if I could sort the tasks on this field.
- Also, I can't find to-do list software with "recurring" tasks which can be preset to show up daily, weekly, monthly, or annually. I suppose this could be worked-around by resetting the Start Date every time I complete one of these tasks; but I was hoping for something less time-consuming.
Can you help me with one of 2 big questions?
1. Am I missing some software or some workaround that could give me these features?
2. Or, am I habitually over-complicating task management issues? In other words, I'm trying to be open-minded. ... Do any of you have a good method for handling your tasks so that you don't forget any of the myriad things that ought to get done?

I had somewhat the same issue. I use Evolution for part of the answer, and the standard gnome calendar for recurring tasks, which also has an email feature I need. Between these two, all my scheduling is solved. Not to say that's anyone else's answer, but it has been mine. I havent loaded winblows in about 3 years, now, and I don't miss it. This OS sometimes requires different workarounds, but, IT WON'T LOSE YOUR STUFF, either.

Have a look at KDE PIM 2.1.1, which claims to have an organizer similar to MS Schedule Plus.

The KDE PIM website <http://pim.kde.org/index.php> lists KOrganizer as part of KDE PIM, so I think the one I tried is the one you're talking about. I'm on version 3.0.3. It does look a lot like Schedule+, but it doesn't allow me to enter recurring to-do list items and tasks can only be assigned a priority of 1 thru 5.
I'm assuming you're not saying that v2.1.1 had better features than v3.0.3, right?

The latest KOrganizer is 3.1. And yes, the To-Do list only has priority levels 1 - 5. Personally, if I had more than 3 - 4 priorities that needed my attention at any one time, I would not be doing any of them justice. But I'm not you :) .

You might want to consider how important the lowest level priorities are relative to your position in whatever it is that you do. If I had assistants, I would definitely off-load some priority items and simply schedule "how-goes-it" meetings on the progress. If I had a lot of priorities that "churned" a lot, I'm not sure that micro-managing each (especially the lowest ones) would be the best use of my time -- monitoring, yes, micromanaging (should this be #78 or #33), no. Suffice it to say that there could very well be a whole bunch of category 5's that might bubble up some time, but the 1 - 4 categories darn well better get done first :D !!
