Apache & Solaris

I'm having a problem on a Solaris 2.6 machine. I've gotten Apache 1.3.14 compiled and installed, but something has happened to the /etc file and while I can see it from FTP and from ls -l, otherwise it doesn't exist to the system, which I don't understand. Can someone help me out? I can't delete it, copy it, anything!

/etc is a directory not a file. Believe me, if it didn't exist, you'd know about it! What are you trying to do? Where does apache come into it?

PS Don't try and delete /etc!
