Well here it is. I just downloaded Netscape 6 (a VERY large download, I might add...) And as far as the look and feel of it, it's an incredible improvement over the last verson. I'm not sure I like it yet however -- it's extremely bloated, and is currently turning my hard drive into swiss cheese.

However, I do have a question - How do I uninstall the old version of Netscape? (Or any software for that matter..) - Do I have to find the install.log for every piece of software I want to uninstall and then go around the system and manually remove all of the files and directories for that program?

Any help would be appreciated :-) Thanks

BTW: If you're running on a slow system like me (I have a speedy desktop, but only a P166 for a notebook) then I suggest just keeping the old Netscape. It does the job, and it's not such a resource hog.

I think that unless you installed from RPM (or some other package) then you will have to manually remove files. Uninstalling an RPM would be a much easier task!

I think with netscape all you have to do is

delete it's directory
remove any links/binaries in .../bin
remove your (and other?!) ~/.netscape directories

Someone tell me if this is wrong but thats what I would do anyway.

BTW I'm going to wait around for Mozilla. Operas ok though but I didn't like the way (on my system at least) its interface didn't remember any of my settings, nor it's overall appearance for that matter, (qt2x libs!).

Actually, after installing it 3 times to try and fix problesm, i think it actually replaces the old version. i cant run it at least! it kind of puts its files into two places, both /usr/local/netscape and /usr/bin/netscape (i think thats what it was called, bu the old one was in it too)

Well -- I used Netscape 6 yesterday for a while and loved it. The fonts when surfing looked much nicer than the previous versions, and it looks cool. Unfortunately, because it's so bloated and is such a resource hog, I decided to get rid of it and run the old version until I find a browser I like.

If I had a fast processor though, I would certainly use Netscape 6...
