While fooling around with ppp and different firewall apps I locked myself out of my own system. (I thought) No matter what I did I couldn't connect to my ISP. After calming contemplating my predicament I decided to reinstall Slack. OOPS! wrong partition. I just overwrote my Debian distro.
Brand new install's still broke. Finally I get one webpage to load but the next 4 return errors. Since my ISP doesn't have weekend tech support and Monday's "dumb question day",I decided to give them a call. Their answer was-- "It might have been a problem. We had to reboot our server this morning."

Sorry to hear your pain!
Some suggestions which might help for the next time:
1) Try to make a plan on how to go back to working
environment if things go wrong.
2) Write every change down so you know what you've
changed.
3) Try to use ping, dig to see if you can reach your default
gateway and if you get an answer from your ISP's DNS
DNS server, also just check your cabling before doing
anything else.
If you think everything's OK from your side, it's time to
contact your ISP. Too bad yours don't seem to have to
weekend support.
Good luck next time!!

Thought of changing your Custom User Text to something a bit more descriptive of your Linux prowlness. ;)
Of course you have a current backup you can use to restore your system to it's prior state.
Sorry to hear that... :(

OUCH...that hurts.
Slackware has a "live disk" included in their 8.1 release. It's also a great recovery disk.
I don't know if it's available as an iso on their site(s), but it is available in the retail version. Amazon.com sells it for $14.99. It may be worth it for you to check this out.
Eh, if you have to buy it, your supporting the OSS community (thinking on the bright side)

"Of course you have a current backup you can use to restore your system to it's prior state."
When you depend on a slow dialup you learn "cdrecord" and practice often.
