ARGH!!! I hate this!!

Today, as I checked my email, I got two emails from people I didn't know. One came from antionettemccutc@netscape.net, with the subject titled "Coverage Expiration". Hmm, what's this? Perhaps my health insurace expired? I opened it up and, to my horror, it was a hideous PHP or HTML designed email with large flashy graphics and a rather long advertisement for car insurance. Hmmm... not only have I had the same insurance company for 6 years, but since two months ago I no longer have a car! Now THAT's what I call good marketing!

The other email simply came from some female with the subject "Did you have fun last saturday?". "YES!!" i thought. Could it be that beautiful woman I met last saturday at the club? I was pretty trashed, but all i recalled was giving her my phone number. Excitedly, I quickly opened it up and, to my horror, got nothing more than an advertisment for porn sites. Odd, since I never visit porn sites. Sorry, but I am not interested in your advertisement for "Fresh rape porn" and "watch this dumb **** get f*cked hard up the ***" :mad:

try an antispam filter.

this is what i use. virtually eliminated any spam. AND it gets deleted on the ISP's server so it never gets downloaded to my server :)

These spammers are really sharp...have you noticed their subject lines?

Examples:

DELIVERY CONFIRMATION
(like who hasn't ever shopped online? Grabs your attention)

COVERAGE EXPIRATION
(exactly like what carrja99 said)

I'M GLAD TO HAVE FOUND YOU
(gets you to thinking that an old friend may have found you from Classmates.com or your HS/College's website)

I just delete 'em all now. If it is something important...your friend's or the company will CALL you.

Oh, yeah, and nothing beats the "Increase Your Penis Size" emails. Gotta love it...since I'm a woman. :)

Since there's no one on the "horizon" at the present time, I just laugh and delete 'em.

It's quite alright...don't let that bother you please. I came to terms with it even before he died, since his condition was terminal.

i had to block a bunch of domains because of the spam was getting.

hotmail and yahoo being the worst offenders. with mailfilter you can override single email addresses tho so any friends i have that mail me from those domains tha ti have blocked can still get through.

The only reason that I submitted the post was because I figured that if you were still dealing with it you wouldn't have posted in the first place. And I'm not religious either, so I won't further that debate. There's been too much religious debate on these boards in recent months anyway.

Well, what my problem is, is that this is my primary email address. I never enter it on forms or anything, just give it to friends and use to register at sites such as PayPal and such.

As for filling forms on other sites, I use a special email address that collects somewhere in the vincity of 100 emails per day.

What gets me though, is recently I've been getting all kinds of pornograpghy emails that go to extreme ("Watch this dumb retarded ****ing wh0re drink out of the toilet so she can suck this HUGE ****!") and ads for things such as viagra (why would I need viagra when I'm 22 and in perfect shape?) in my primary email address regularly.

I try getting myself removed, but instead I wind up getting twice as much instead of being removed, and my attempts to block addresses is futile as they constantly change thier address and at times even use fake addresses. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

If you're clicking on the link in the offensive emails that says "remove me..." all that's there for is to verify that the address is active (which you probably know already).

I just filter out this sh!t in my main box (most of 'em come from the same domains).

Many thanks for the mailfilter app. I hadn't seen it before, it works brilliantly.

Here's my plug for urpmi......I just opened a terminal, as root, and typed urpmi mailfilter - it was downloaded and installed. I set up the .mailfilterrc file and I'm done.
