hey guys, i just installed slackware 8.1...everything was going gr8 as root. i got my ethernet, sound, video and usb mouse to work. but when i set up a normal user and logged in, the sound wouldnt work. i did a su root and then lsmod, and emu10k1 was there but i still couldnt hear anything. thanks in advance.

Check the permissions set on /dev/dsp* are accessible to you. You may need to add yourself to a group to get sound. In Debian I have to add myself to the audio group, but I can't remember for Slackware. I'm sure this is in the Slackware FAQ's on the Slack website. Have you read them yet? If so, search here too as this is asked frequently. Good luck :)
