Could someone tell me the best way to install this? If I install as my regular user, it installs to /home/subnet/ and if I install as root, my regular user can't access everything.
I've also tried
install soffice52 /net
and all I get is a lot of processing, then it returns to the prompt and I can't find it.

i have always installed as regular user into home/user/office52 . I never log in as root anyways and neither should you. :-)

can you log on to another user account and use it?

Sorry this is not a respond to your question but I was wondering the same thing. Is there a way StarOffice can be setup so all the users on the network can access it, but they can only save their files to their directory?

so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-en.bin..bin /n
as root, install it to a place where a regular user could acess it, like for me /usr/local/staroffice
then, as a user run the soffice file, for me located at
/usr/local/staroffice/program/soffice
this will bring up an install screen. Install it. That will take about 2m. Do this for every user that wants to use StarOffice. That's how I did it, there's probably a better way.
