Okay, thanks for the assistance. To 'help' things along, I obtained a second hard drive, 3.2g. This had an earlier version of red hat on it. I began a workstation install w/ the new redhat release, allowing it to automatically partition. It stopped, indicating a bug in the install of python. Now, upon trying to reload the os, it halts saying that it cannot write to the boot sector (I believe). Is there a way to completely reformat this drive? Fdisk cannot see the disk at all. If anyone can help this lost soul, it would be appreciated. Many thanks-Wil :)

The easiest way I know is to rerun the installation again. After you go thru all the selection and options, the installation will format the partitions. That will reformat your existing partitions and hopefully this time the installation is successful.

Else, you can just boot up using the installation floppy or CD-ROM, Select install (versus upgrade) and when it comes to partitioning the drive, choose fdisk. In fdisk type p to print out the partition numbers, and remove the Linux partitions with the d command. When you're satisfied with the changes you have made, you can quit with a w and the changes will be saved to disk. If you deleted too much, type q and no changes will occur.

Once you have removed the Linux partitions, you can reboot your computer by pressing Control--Alt--Delete instead of continuing with the install. This will remove the partitions.

Hope this helps... maybe someone else knows a better way? But my guess is that your problem has to do with LILO. Where did you choose to install LILO? MBR?
