Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Shrinking a Windows Partition
I want to shrink my Windows partition and give the space to my Linux partition. I am willing to reinstall Linux, but I would rather not reinstall Windows (go ahead, say it, I know you want to, ;) ). Is there any way to reliable and preferably easily shrink the Windows partition?
Thanks!

Actually, I believe you can download a trial version of Parition Magic from the CNET/Download.com website. I don't know what its capabilties are, but it is probably able to help you with waht you need.
I believe the name of another partioning tool is FIPS, and I believe it is free.(Someone correct me if I am wrong here).
I definatley reccomend using CNET for finding programs that you are looking for, by simply entering the desired app in the search field
Why not just use the partitioning tool built into Linux? I THINK that it does allow you to do this but I have never used it for this so cans't speak to how "safe" it is. The bad thing about using partition magik is that after resizing the partition it becomes non dos and if you have to uninstall PM you SOL and windows will not work after. Another problem would be if partition magik went corrupt. I've had that happen to me and its not a fun thing. If you can I would try the disk utility in your Linux Dist.. Good luck. I'll be trying the same thing like Sunday so if you want to wait i'll let ya know. If you already know that Linux's disk utility doesn't allow for this let me know so I don't f*** anything up. Later :)

FIPS is free, although I've never gotten it to work for me. But that's just me. I think there's also a Linux utility that can shrink/enlarge partitions for you. Check http://www.freshmeat.net

Partition Magic demo sucks. It wont actually do the partitions for you. It just lets you play around with the GUI and see how easy it would be to do the partitions.
Complete waste of download time.

Look for a free dos utility called partit, it works great, but you use it from a floppy like partition magic. It is free and fast. Google search to the rescue.
Just go to download.com and search for "dos partition" or "partition resize." I found 2 dos utilities for these tasks. they are both freewares
