I just wanted to know some peoples favorite games on linux. I know there are a lot of games that can be run in wine, but does anyone know of any good open source games designed specificly for linux? I'd like to hear some opininions because I am generally new to Linux gaming!

They aren't open-source, but anything recent by Id has been ported. Stuff like Q3, RtCW, (AFAIK Doom 3 will be as well), and such.
Quake 1 and 2 have been GPL'ed (and if 4 comes out, I'm sure 3 will be as well), so as long as you have the Windows CD to get the (still licensed) data from, you can play them.
Loki has ported a bunch of games, including UT (the original), Rune (which probably wasn't hard, since it uses the UT engine...), Descent 3, and others, but again, none of those are open-source. You need to buy the full game from a Loki reseller (like tuxgames.com or similar).
UT2003 has a Linux installer on CD 3, but it's not fully open either.
As for opensource games, LBreakout2 is pretty good (IMHO), as is most of the stuff put out by lgames. So are Chromium, xkobo, Cube (though cube may not be open, I don't know for sure), and a host of others.
Try icculus.org for commercial ports, and try Freshmeat or something for opensource games. There are a bunch of polls up at ... umm... somewhere... about good games as well. Great, now I don't remember where that "somewhere" is!
Ah, here we go. It was HappyPenguin. The link that led me to it in the first place:

I've been using DOSemu to play the old Buck Rogers SSi games (based on the AD&D gold box engine). I think I've passed all the AD&D games from then...might of missed 2 of the DragonLance ones, there were so many of them :)
Once you get DOSemu working http://www.the-underdogs.org/ is a great site to get the classics from ;)
Those 5 1/4" floppys are difficult to manage sometimes :D
