xf86config / video graphics IBM Fire GL1

I'm trying to use xf86config to configure my x sessions for an IBM Intellistation without success. i am using the monitor settings from my other linux boxes (all using the same monitor through a kvm).

What Distro and what's the error/problem?

i attempted a gui Redhat 8.0 install but it defaulted to text mode

the install assigned the video card a VESA (generic) driver. it seems like the error messages are contradictory because the error log also says:

"(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration."
and
"Fatal server error:
no screens found"

the redhat website lists the FireGL 1000/1000 Pro/3000 as "compatible." i have tried the listed drivers without success.
