Hi. This is the first time I have even thought about linux and after doing a bit of reading I downloaded Mandrake 9.0 . My problem is that I copied it onto a cd using Easy Cd Creator and when I tried to boot the computer using the cd it doesnt read it. I know it works, and I have no idea what the problem is.

Anyone advise?

Somehow, you extracted the files before you burnt them, so they aren't bootable.

Re-burn the CDs, making sure you burn the *.iso files as images. See your CD burning software help file.

Cd boot is enavbled and I have copied my download as an image file and I have copied it as an image file and it still wont boot frmo it. I am running Win ME and I have my whole hard drive partioned to it. I have checked out Mandrakess homepage and it doesnt help much at all. Oh and my floppy disk drive doesnt work so I cant creat a boot disk. Again any help would be much appreciated

i have an idea

when u burnt the ISO make sure you did it the corect way and not the foolproof way

hence check the CD label is correct

other than that i dunno, must be a mistake u made or summut

WindowsXP uses the NTFS filesystem and I'm not sure you can shrink it like you can a FAT32 filesystem. You may want to get another hard drive to install Linux on.

Otherwise, look forward to creating a NTFS for WindowsXP, a FAT32 partition for read/write between Linux/Windows and room for Linux.

Did the md5sum check good?

Easy Cd Creator is funny, I have had the same problem with it. For some reason it makes it very confusing as to HOW to burn an ISO & make it a bootable ISO. It wants to copy then all as files...complete with directories...but won't boot.

I finally went to Nero and all my troubles went away. :)

I haven't used Easy Cd Creator for a long time so I can't try walking you through the process. But, I will tell you...it's worth doing.

There -is- a way to do it in Easy Cd Creator but you'll have to look around.

Browse through these google hits (http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Easy+Cd+Creator+burn+iso+as+image&btnG=Google+Search). They look promising.
