What distribution should I try? I have tried three distributions of Linux so far and I always get hardware problems, especially with the soundcard and NIC. My system configuration is as follows:
AMD Athlon 750
Asus K7V
Voodoo 3
Soundblaster PCI128
D-Link DFE-530TX
Pyro Digital 1394 (won't be using probably)

...which distro's have you tried? And what are you looking to do - learning, server, firewall, that sort of thing....

I'm running a Slackware current system. I installed a SB PCI 16 last week, it took around five minutes to figure out which module, (I guessed the wrong one first time). The only problem, was one /dev file that only have root access, but I fixed that after searching the Slackware forums. I also have a D-Link NIC, I'm not sure if it's the same model though. Both of these items seem to me to be pretty standard pieces of kit, I'm surprised your having problems. Does everything work OK in Windows ? Could be a resource problem, in which case I don't think any distro is going to cope better than any other, I would maybe go for a "standard" one, either debian or Slackware, and be prepared for digging through a couple of NHF's here, or s HOW-TO on www.linux.org. (http://www.linux.org.) I've currently got 3 systems at home running Slack, and between those two resources I have figured out and fixed all my problems.

PS, I just noticed I have a 5 star rating, thanks to whoever did that !
