Hi:
I have modified the permission of all folders under root(/).When I reboot,I got this "Gdm has been murdered mysteriously...."
.The message just keeps coming up.I can't stop it and log in as root to solve it.What should I do?thanx!

I guess you should boot on a floppy (some install CD can do the same) and fix the permissions. But why did you change them? That was asking for trouble!

I have tried to boot from floopy,but the problem still exist.Any other good ideas?

I had a similar problem but it was due to incorrectly changing the Xconfig86 file through xconfigurator in Redhat...

I think I haven't been very explicit. I was thinking about booting a linux boot and root floppy to get a minimal command line linux running in memory INSTEAD of loading the linux installed on the harddrive.

How do I "booting a linux boot and root floppy to get a minimal command line linux running in memory ".All I have is a boot disk created when I install RedHat 7.0.

I'm not sure if this will help you. If when you boot up your computer you get the "LILO boot:" prompt, then type in "linux single" ,without the "'s, then press enter. If you're lucky, you'll get a console screen.
