you don't buy a .com when you don't know what to do.. do you have a redirect? then just put you site on a freedomain which offers you webspace, and redirect your .com to it, that will be much easyer.. as far as i know, you need 2 yes, though i don't know wherefore..

Ok, I have a free domain from www.dhs.org (http://www.dhs.org) and it works great. But I am not going to use another server for my web site/mud/ftp site with i have over 30Gb storage on a quad processor ibm server. I have my .com redirected to my IP address, but once it makes the connection i get http://xx.xxx.xx.x instead of http://www.mydomain.com. I have it working but the redirect is not displaying the way i want it to.
So this stems my question of whats next? Do I need to load a DNS server ( or 2 ) so that everything is self contained, or can i just do 1 server and use the 2nd server as the serveer where my domain is parked, or can i just change a setting to have it display the way I want?:}

from my understanding the name that you end up with http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has to do with how the DNS server that is redirecting to you is configured. that is something that you won't be able to fix it's because your www.dhs.org (http://www.dhs.org) points to a DNS server provided by the redirecting service it then has a host entry that says oh if someone is looking for www.dhs.org (http://www.dhs.org) send them to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx the only way to resolve this is host your own DNS (that is the only thing i can think of as to why it does this and how to fix it) I may very well be wrong..

Please don't crosspost. It is annoying to some and it would also make your and our lives easier just having your topic in one forum. Then you only have to check one place for responses and we only have to check one place for responses.
