I'm thinking of buying a Canon N670U (cheapest model in the local PC shop). A Google search tells me that (a) this model is very poorly supported under Linux (if at all) (b) Canon and Linux don't mix and (c) this model is fully supported by Sane.

Is there anybody out there who's actually used the thing and can me tell who to believe? I'm guessing the Sane backend is pretty new, but as a poor student I'd like to hear of any first-hand experiences before I take the plunge.

I have a Canon N656U (least I think that's what the number is).

Like the N670U, being a Canon, it's supposedly not supported. No matter what I did it wouldn't work, I'm sure some of that was down to my own incompetance though. :)

Then I was pointed to Vuescan. I downloaded it and followed some simple instructions and it worked perfectly. I notice on the web site that the N670U is also supported. The full version is $40. Give the thing a try, if it works as well as mine it's worth it.

I have a canon u670 and I am having a heck of a time getting it to work with sane. Is vuscan easy to configure and use?

Thanks,

Andrew
