Jason King 02-17-2001, 12:24 PM  I am not sure about the I810 chipset/video card support in debian. A good cheap card would be an S3 Virge 4MB which you should be able to pick up for under $10. Have you tried Xf86 setup ? DutchPenguin 02-17-2001, 01:05 PM if i type xf86setup it says "command not found" rod 02-17-2001, 01:09 PM Hey Dutch... you're on your way....good. I guess the easy way would be to go out and get an other video card. If you decide to do that, it would be my guess that you need to disable the I810 video in the systems bios. Like Luke-Skywalker suggested, have you tried, as root, XF86Setup. Never having to setup an I810, I am not sure if your driver is there. Check it out. Another option, more difficult, but probably the best way to get your I810 working, would be to download a new kernel and complile in agpgart.o support. Also apt-get the newest xfree86. If we look HERE (http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.6/i8105.html#5), it tells us that we need agpgart.o support to use all the resolutions for the I810. Have fun... believe me, it is all worth it in the end. Thanks, Bert Lend273 02-17-2001, 01:30 PM instead of XF86Setup, which I think is a graphical interface, try xf86config. That is a text interface I believe. But I'm new, so i could be wrong. :) TheMuso 02-17-2001, 09:12 PM Yes xf86config is text, however, I found on some video cards, mainly my Trident Cyber 9525 card, that I had to use the GUI setup to ensure that it worked properly. I could choose the right options in the text setup, but it would freeze my computer. So I would try them both. The GUI setup uses a standard VGA settings to ensure to some extent that it can display everything. teeitup 02-18-2001, 12:43 AM Originally posted by DutchPenguin: if i type xf86setup it says "command not found" If this is indeed his error, a new card would be premature. Do a locate on xf86config This will give the location of the command file. Use the absolute path when using the command. The error this produces will shed more light on what needs to be done next. Good Luck, DutchPenguin 02-18-2001, 01:25 AM My mistake, xf86setup won't work XF86Setup does..... But it keeps saying "X11TransSocketUNIX connect: can't connect: errno = 111" then it says press "return" and it keeps doing the same thing. With xf86config i get really confused, i have not really an idea what to do here... ClearNinja 02-18-2001, 03:05 AM I just installed debian and just went through all of this myself. I had a voodoo 4 4500 and I kept getting those(unixconnect) errors. I went and bought a voodoo 3 300 Agp and I ran xf86config and it worked fine. So I think that with the error your getting your card is probably not supported in stable. You might want to go to Xfree86's website and see if they support your card and upgrade to 4.0.2 or download their source and compile it..(I am still thinking like a slacker!1....lol) I hope I helped a little :) Craig [ 18 February 2001: Message edited by: crohozen ] Mazarin 02-18-2001, 03:57 AM You could upgrade to woody.. that might autodetect your card better because the debs are Xfree86 4... just a suggestion, if you want stability (for a web server, etc) you migth want to keep that potatoe in your pocket for now. justlinux.com
