OpenOffice problem

I'm having a problem with OpenOffice 1.0.1 running under SuSE professional 8.1. When I try to open a MSWord 2000 document, OpenOffice displays and error message and exits to the KDE desktop. Has anyone else seen this problem?

You might be able to get a little more help if you actually post the text of the Error message. The text usually can point someone in the right direction.

Here is the error message I'm receiving:

An unrecoverable error has occurred. All modified files have been saved and can probably be recovered at program restart.

If I click "OK" OpenOffice crashes out to the desktop. This happens anytime I open a .doc file.

I've had the crash and exit problem with OO when opening certain Word docs, but only with one or two of them.

If OpenOffice produces a dump when this happens, I would advise you to submit the dump to the OO developers or at least report the problem.

I'm having the same problem and in search of a fix as doing my university work needs me to deal with these type of files... if I find any type of fix I will post it - good to see that other people are having the same trouble, in my experiences this usually means there might be some type of fix.
