Hey all, i'm seeing all these themes on freshmeat and i'm wanting to download them but when I do, i realize i dont know the next thing to do. I'm getting really bogged down in all these window managers: gtk, sawfish, flux? all these are window managers? All i know is i've got mdk 9.0 and gnome, so how do i get cool themes on here and where can i go/can anyone tell me about the differences in the window managers and which ones i can use....
i dont know anything about it currently.

If you've been to freshmeat in the "Themes" area, you'll see some articles listed...namely one called "How to Create and Install Themes," by Jeff Covey. This is a very informative article and gives instructions on installlation of themes in all popular window managers.

If you're using Gnome, I believe gtk themes will work in Gnome, and depending what the underlying wm is in your version (make sure to check), it will either be Sawfish or Metacity.

You can download and install any number of window managers...they choice is up to you, but to start, here are some good ones:

Waimea http://waimea.org
Blackbox http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net
Fluxbox http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net
Window Maker http://www.windowmaker.org
xfce http://www.xfce.org

There are others, but that should be enough to get you started ;)

BTW-if you're a super n00b, then try to get rpms instead of source. Check Mandrake's site for some of this stuff, since I'm sure they'd have packages.

Good luck
