Hello to all

First I am a newbie also, and I have read a couple of threads here about dsl modems. I have seen that a couple of peope want to install a modem for dsl.

Well I thought that in oder for you to use a DSL modem (Not over USB) that it must be connected to a Network card. If you are, well at less I made a adjustment so that I can go in the net over dsl then it would be throw the network card, and that inturn will go to the dsl modem and then to the splitter and out to the phone line.

If I am wrong would someone please correct me ;-)
On my Susse box, I just went to Yast2, Nework, DSL and made the changes there and whoop I was surfing over to linuxnewbie. I did not have to do anything as far as my DSL modem.

So the network card eth0 is the key along with the ppp protocol.

Maybe this helped someone.

I have an adsl usb modem and have no problems connecting to the internet with it. Course, finding out how to set it up in the first place was something of a trial. But once you find the appropriate HOW-TO, it was really a doddle.:)

So, some distros do support USB dsl modems.
