my dads computer has windows ME on it

he has decided he would like to triple boot

Windows ME
Windows 2000
Mandrake 9.0

he is going to install win2k now, and linux last

is he/are we going to have any trouble booting?

i have tried searching and a cannot find info on this combo.

can you help me out and tell me if i am going to have any trouble with this, as it's gonan be a bad first impression for my dad.

i have rin linux for a while now (maybe even a year)

if flames are required then fine, but i would like someone with this setup or someone with knowlege of this setup to give me a hand

i hope i have included all information required ot answer this question.

soz for making this so damn long

I used to do that. no problems. make sure that windows me is /dev/hda1

you will be better off using 2 hard-drives instead of one. install the linux boot loader into /dev/hda

Mandrake should auto-detectwindows and auto configure all that. Did it for my friend and myself with windows 2k (updated windows a while back)

Shouldn't be too bad. Done it before, but 98/xp/mandrake. 'Drake's good at seeing installations of windows, so it'll probably set up everything just fine without any of your intervention.

Win2k uses NTFS
WinME uses fat32 and will be the most picky on install Install this on a primary partition. Install this first, or you may be able to do it using the Win2k installer to partition first, I have little experience with 2k.

If you are starting with a bare drive, I think it would be easier to partition first, install WinME, then install Win2k, then Linux.

yeh, ok thanks a lot

my dads 1st 80GB HDD will have winME on it

my dads second 80GB HDD will be partitioned 50/50

40GB for win2k and then 40GB for MDK9.0

thanks for this, ready to go then, doing win2k now and then MDK9.0

ok, winME is installed
win2k is installed

my dads comp now uses a bootloader that 2k installed to choose winME or Win2k

if i install lilo will it add those two options during instalation, or will it just add win2k and the win2k option will start the win2k bootloader

or shall i not risk it and dad can use a bootdisk to get into mandrake
