what distro would you reccommend to a openbsd user for a laptop?

You can pretty much run any distro, but since you're coming from a BSD background, you'll probably be more comfy with Slack since it still uses BSD-init scripts. As for laptop tools, you can probably find what you're looking for at http://www.freshmeat.net I would assume though that probably RedHat or Mandrake, and Debian too, have all the laptop tools you need on the CD. justlinux.com
