I have been running Red Hat 8.0 on my laptop for about 2 weeks now and every thing was working fine. 1 day ago mozilla quit working. I try to start it and it comes up and starts to connect to my home page then it closees. no error msg or any thing. I can still use Konqueor to surf but I am puzzed about this. what can I do to troubleshoot this problem.

Try running Mozilla in a terminal/commandline/console to see what errors are generated.
mozilla
or
/path/to/mozilla
or
cd /path/to
./mozilla

I tried your suggestion about trying to run it from the terminal and I got the same results. Perhaps the program is damaged is there a way I can reload it without reinstalling the whole distro. I am sure there is I guess I just need to talk myself throug this.
Did you get any error messages in the terminal window?
As a workaround try renaming your .mozilla directory to .mozilla-bak. The command is "mv .mozilla .mozilla-bak".

I have occassionally had that happen with mozilla-mail. My fix is to rename the prefs.js file (in your /home/user/.mozilla...directory) to prefs.js.bak and restart mozilla.
It appears to keep its previous settings, and make a new prefs.js file
This may or may not work for you.
As far as reloading the program alone, you can do that using the rpm command. e.g.:
(1) read man mozilla
(2) rpm -e mozilla
(3) rpm -i mozilla
to install from your installation medium

I am having a similar situation, I am also running RedHat 8 on my laptop. I have only started trying linux about 2 weeks ago, and about 1 week ago I stated Mozilla and the profile dialog box opened. I don' t remember what I picked, but since then I get the same problem described in this thread. When I click the shortcut on the "start bar" (sorry I am a windows convert) Mozilla opens and imediately closes again. However if I open it from a terminal window it works fine. I have tried renameing the perfs.js file and there was no change. If anyone has any further suggestions I appreciate your help and thank you in advance.
Jay.

If I'm logged on as lenfick, forget it. The first page output is partway through when it dies. Logged on as root it works fine. Running from terminal no help. I looked at prefs.js in both directories and these are the differences:
root has lines:
user_pref("wallet.SchemaValueFileName", "45002188.w");
user_pref("security.warn_submit_insecure", false);
which lenfick doesn't
lenfick has line:user_pref("prefs.converted-to-utf8", true);
which root doesn't
lenfick has line:
user_pref("signon.SignonFileName", "45001238.s");
root has:
user_pref("signon.SignonFileName", "44997282.s");
I found that if I ran with the original start command;
'htmlview %u' the screen would flash and disappear, where on root the initial RedHat screen comes up o.k. I changed the start command to 'htmlview www.redhat.com' and the RedHat page starts and dies about 1/2 way through loading.
Now it's time to poke around and figure out what got changed under the linux covers.
I alsways call Windoze the 'OS of unintended consequences'. This is the first instance that the thing might be contagious.
....still crazy after all these years.

Here's another data point. ANYTHING that requires mozilla (not just web access) flashes on and off. For example the RedHat 8.0 documentation!!!

Calling all mozilla xperts. I've run the stats window on kppp and found that multiple calls to mozilla each die after very close to 50K bytes transmission. What setting limits the amount of incoming data before crapping out?

quick fix (but you loose your data)
if it's just you and not other users (like root)
run mozilla -ProfileManager
and delete the profile, then make a new one.
WARNING: YOU WILL LOOSE ALL SETTINGS FOR MOZILLA
do this only as a last resort.
(just out of intrest what version of mozilla is this)

Are you using the RH installed version of Mozilla?
If so there are quite a few depends for it system wide and I would not suggest removing it, but here is a workaround that I find useful due to the fact I like to download nightly builds a couple of times a week. You don't have to follow the complete outline just the basic or whatever you need.
