installing rpm package for linmodem hsf

i recently downloaded a rpm package for my hsf modem by conexant. the modem has
user id 127 a
device id 2014
subvendor id 122d
sub device id 4050

i am using red hat 8.0
kernel 2.4.18_14 over i686

i installed the package but my modem (which is on com 4) was not detected by linux....i tried to uninstall by using rpm -e linmodem command but certain files were still left in the os.

please help me getting online with the help of linux.......

oh yes mine is an internal modem and i am usin hp pavilion 8854

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I don't know that much about Linux and modems and so did not originally reply as I was hoping another member would be able to assist you.

Does

lspci
cat /proc/interrupts
cat /proc/ioports

show your modem with assigned resources?

Does the HP have the option to disable PnP OS in the bios? If so, then do so and see if that helps.
