Congratulations. Slackware is pretty cool. I hope you have a lot of fun tweaking your system. Make sure and trawl www.classic.themes.org (http://www.classic.themes.org) for a cool Slackware desktop theme or check out http://www.slackware.com/~msimons/slackware/grfx/
for some Slack propaganda and: http://www.linuxmafia.org/
for slack packs.

More importantly, be sure to patch up your new Slack box. It's disappointing, but the Slack developers seem to have gone... slack. Download the released patches here:
ftp://ftp.cerias.purdue.edu/pub/os/slackware/slackware-8.0/patches
There are also a couple of new security holes for Slack that haven't been addressed.
1. If you're running the default 2.4.5 kernel, you need to do a chmod 644 /lib/modules/2.4.5/modules.*
2. Then you need to edit each file in /etc/rc.d and add umask 022 at the top of each of them.
3. And if you plan on using sendmail, don't. Either upgrade (Slack hasn't released a patch) or switch to postfix or qmail. I prefer postfix.

Ummm . . . yeah . . . my mistake. Do what X suggested--then go get graphical goodies.
