This is Linux. MS doesn't support squat for Linux. There are lots of media players for linux though. Whether they will work for Yahoo stuff or not I don't know. You might try it though. If the media types are supported with the player, you may be able to get something to work. This is a little out of my area. I use xmms for mpegs, there is also mplayer and others I'm sure.
In linux, you have to do a lot of homework and searching and researching to find out what works and what you can do. There are lots of plugins for netscape, like flash, realplayer, xmms, java, and many more. Newer versions will probably be much better supported. The only advantage of 4.79 that I can think of is that it may be quicker loading than the new versions. Many people just go with Mozilla 1.x.x or something but there is opera and lots more in that department too.
You have a whole big world of choices with Linux. Just start trying things and you'll get the hang of it. You already untarred and uzipped netscape. Next you can compile programs configured for your machine and lots of other stuff you can do that Windows can't. Have fun!

http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/ is a great plugin for playing media in mozilla based browsers. You need mplayer to use this remember... I tried opening a site using phoenix, and it said I needed netscape 4.7 or some stupid error, using it Mozilla says the same thing. The way I see it is, if a site doesn't work like it should use another one. music.msn.com has streaming music videos (although they take a while to load), that work with the mplayerplug-in browser..

forget that, i installed mplayer from cvs on the site.
i did after i downloaded the cvs -
cd main
cvs login
cvs update -dp
and it updated sucsfully
i have no idea how to run the media player and when i put the plugin that i was told to get in my mozilla folder, it relises its there but the screen is gray saying the movie is loading
it never finishes "loading" so i am assuming that i installed mplayer wrong. How should i re-install it or what should i do to make it work?

Oh download the mplayerplug-in v.32, it seems to work the best. And depending on what you download it can take a while for it to start playing. Find a small media file and try playing that. To test quicktime go to quicktime.com and try viewing one of the ads.
