over the course of the last month or two, i've really learned to love fluxbox as a window manager. i had a couple of questions however that i'm looking to for suggestions to improve flux.

1-can anyone suggest a program similar to idesk that would allow me to create desktop icons. idesk works but for some reason the icons don't look particularly good.

2-is there any way to have a different backround images in each virtual desktop like you can with kde. i dont want to run a full desktop environment as i find it rather slow for my taste, but i like the idea of having different images for each desktop. it makes for a nice easy way to tell/organize where i am. i would image there must be a program that could do this but i don't know where to look for it.

-thanx all

i also have had fluxbox grow on me over the past 2 months

i tryed "fbdesk" for desktop icons but i couldn't figure it out.

i just leave my desktop blank

however i too would like a diferent wallpaper option for each Vdesktop, maybe even a prog that changes the wallpaper depending on the time (a new option i saw on kdelook)

fluxspace sounds like a pretty sweet expansion to fluxbox. thanks for the suggestion. only problem is it won't configure right. i get this output:

checking for XOpenDisplay in -lX11... no
configure: error: XOpenDisplay not found in -lX11

i don't understand that.

im not by any means an expert in linux but i would imagine you could get a new wallpaper radomly at time intervals by using a combo of cron with maybe a quick shell script involving and xsetroot command. i don't think it would be that hard to do but then again what do i know??

do you have the dev libraries for X installed? that could be the problem. i'm not sure tho as i've never used fluxspace. i don't care for icons on the desktop.
