I'm running half-life in redhat seawolf, as you all know, the HL screen is in the corner of my screen.

How do I make my desktop resolution bigger? CTRL-something?

You can run Half-Life under Linux? How about CounterStrike? If I could do that, I would never load Windows up again.

(BTW - I mean, actually PLAY the games. Not just run servers for 'em.)

Yep. Using WINE! A product from CodeWeavers (http://www.codeweavers.com)

Do you know how to change the desktop resolution? I think its some key combination!

I'm reading about setting up OpenGL with WINE. I note here that I have to run SETUP under WINE (at least according to this website). I don't want to have to resetup Half-Life and Counterstrike if I don't need to. Can't I just use my existing installations on my Windows partition?

P.S. As for the screen size thing, I'm not sure about any commands. Try looking up shortcut keys under your system's help files.

If you have multiple resolutions defined in your XF86Config file you can toggle through them using CTRL+ALT+keypad +/-.

And in fact that is the solution. The thing is that half-life's menu thingy is always at 640x480 resolution, I think, and if you dont have that set in your Modes then it will just show up as a 640 chunk of your larger desktop. You just need to add the proper resolution to the config file, I stress add not change to. But congrats man its fun having good games in linux. You might check on this but its likely you are gona be getting more fps in linux than you might have in windows, I do.

I'm sorry, Dark Ninja, you'll just have to reconfigure Half-Life if you want to isntall it in Linux :(.

And a message to the other dudes:

Thanks! I knew it was keypad-something-something! ;)

Are there any free 3D MMORPGs anywhere? I don't want to buy another new game! :/

I'm tired of MUDs too :D

Yeah, that's what I use to play. I didn't have to re-setup Half-Life or anything like that. Runs quite well, really.

Can you run HL under the codeweavers version of Wine? Last time I tried (about 1 month ago) the codeweavers version did not support OpenGL. Do you know if this has changed?

If you haven't done already, visit the linux Half Life site. (http://lhl.linuxgames.com/)

Actually, I use WineX from www.transgaming.com (http://www.transgaming.com) which is built off of the Wine project's code, but adding their own DirectX stuff in.

Probably. Haven't tried it, as I find OpenGL mode runs faster than DirectX (even with DX8 in Windows).

Anyone know if you can connect to battle.net using wine? Just tried it, didn't work. Do I have to have direct X installed, because I skipped that part of the install for warcraft 2 BNE
