I recently upgraded my laptop to xfree 4.2.99 to solve a problem with the i830 intel graphics card on a Dell inspiron 2600. This went well expect that the menus in OpenOffice now have no text and just a short black dash at the start of each line. has anyone else had a similar problem and is there a fix? All other applications are fine.
I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and updated the following from cooker to fix my graphics card problem
Xfree86
glibc2.3
freetype
lsb-dev
fontconfig
Any help appreciated

Perhaps it has something to do with the freetype and fontconfig updates.
Anything in the OpenOffice preferences/options you may be able to modify to fix the problem?
How about the Fonts and Paths in the Files section of /etc/X11/XF86Config or -4? Anything in there change since the X upgrade?
The OO support/doc site?
If all else fails, maybe backup your OO documents, uninstall OO and then reinstall.

Found a fix :D
Disabled the Font Replacement Table under Tools|Options|OOo|Font Replacement|uncheck Apply Font Replacement. Key sequence: Alt+t,o,Ctrl+home,+,down arrow 9 times, Alt+a, Enter
This restored the menus but they looked terrible. Went back into the Font Replacement Table, rechecked Apply Font Replacement and then chose Helvetica to replace Andale Sans UI and this now looks pretty good.
Cheers everyone :D

A quick follow up,
reactivating the font replacement table with a different font only works until you restart OO again amd then the menus are blank aagin. Leaving the font replacement table unchecked is the way to go. Increasing the view settings to 109% made the overall appearance of the fonts more appealing.
