Evening all,

I've got Samba up and running on my Linux box and have it connecting to my Win 2k system.

The networking is set up as follows:

Cable Modem -> Win 2k system -> Red Hat system
(the 2 systems are connected via a crossover cable)

My problem is that transferring files between the 2 goes in spurts. (ie. fast then stalls for a few seconds etc)

Has anyone run into this? Or maybe knows what might be causing this?

could be bad cable, bad network cards, or a slow hard drive. how does it work if you ftp from one machine to the other?

Hmm, same thing. I've used the HD tweek and both drives in the RH box are running at 32 bit DMA. The drives in the linux box are both 6.8 gig drives and there's a 40 gig drive in the Win 2k box. Not sure how to check if DMA is enabled in the WIn 2k box though.
