Hey guys. I've been reading this book about Samba and they were talking very briefly about inetd. They point out that configuration of inetd should be done via /etc/inetd.conf. Thing is, I don't see the conf file and there doesn't appear to be one anywhere else on my drive. I DO see a directory called /etc/xinetd.d so I figured maybe there was an x driven configuration tool for inetd or something, but I don't see that in any of my menus or anything. What the heck am I doing wrong? Did I just not install Mandrake 8 with inetd or something?

Red Hat and few others have now replace inetd with Xinet.(more secure etc..)
So your need edit /etc/Xinetd.conf file.
Then once you have tweaked it to your liking just restart it Xinet

Alex

Thanks Alex, I really appreciate the input. Does the fact that it's got an x in front of it mean that there's a GUI editor for this or something ala. SWAT for Samba? Not that it would really help, just curious.

You can modify the file with any editor you would like the x stand extended if not mistaken.

Alex :)
