I believe the official Linus Torvalds way is ehem ehem
"Lin_Ux" or "Lin-ucks"
Most people say Lin_EX, but the two sound the same when pronounced at a regular speed in everyday speech.
the uck's is pronounced the same way you would say *ucks you!

Linus Torvald is Finnish. Their calling customs say linux is pronounced " Lee (as in a name)- nucks (as rhymes with ducks).

Just kidding with you, I wondered it myself. Actually, I think I posted the same topic not 2 months ago, so don't feel bad.

Well, if your a retarded geek that has no friends, you'll pronounce it "line-ucks". These same people are so moronic they probably pronounce windows "wine-doos" as well.

I am soooooooo not going to hear the end of this.....
The 14 year old teenage son of a friend insisted it was pronounced just so.
I insisted that as the 1337 adult, it was pronounced "line-ux".
Now I must face the music of admitting he was right :(
Perhaps in 40 years or so, he'll stop rubbing it in :p

That's how I thought it was pronounced, too. I mean, in America, Linus is promounced just like the Peanuts character, so I figured it was like that, but with and "x" instead of an "s". Ah well.
I still say Line-ux because I think it sounds better. So :þ @ carrja99

Some people pronounce it:
"Bill Gates can kiss my a**:!!!"
With the "Linux" part being silent, of course.

Sorry, if you pronounce it beginning with an L sound you're wrong. Same case if you don't pronounce it with a silent N. and if there ISN'T a "ch" sound in there, just go back to kindergarden and learn how to read.
