I have installed Redhat 7.1 three times now in three days in three different ways, and I have had more computer hangs and crashes than I ever had with a fresh Windose install. Is this normal? I can get things to work sometimesk, and then sometimes the screen will just freeze and the cursor goes dead, just like in Windose. This is a factory boxed set. Should I send it back and try another distro? Rickdog

I dont know what to tell you. I just installed Red Hat 7.1 about a week ago and it runs like a champ. Whats your setup?

Hey cuzzvinn, my setup is running an AMD K6-2 400 on a Royal MBoard. I installed to autopartitioned HD on a Linux only install. Most of my problems seem to come when I am browsing with Netscape. I'm on ADSL and I don't have Linux drivers for the 3Com NIC I installed today. It takes a long time for the Eth0 interface to come up OK when booting. Sometimes it fails and I have to unplug the router and reboot, then it will find the Eth0 interface. I'm using the Konqueror browser now, for some reason it seems more stable. Hasn't frozen, locked, or just vaporized on me yet. Any how, I will keep trying to get this thing smoothed out. BTW, how did you install and what's your system? Rickdog

What 3com NIC is it? There are a lot of kernel modules for 3com cards that come with the standard install of redhat7.1

Odds are that it is probably in there

Then all you need to do is modprobe <modulename>

RedHat - or Linux in general - may have issues with the AMD K6-2 series of CPUs. Have you checked RedHats website, and the Hardware Compatibility List there yet?

Cheers :)

Thanks again to all who replied. I reinstalled again, this time with ADSL on at boot and setup the network config WITHOUT the linksys router in the way, and Netscape seems to be working better than ever. For some reason I have always had a hard time getting the IP to go through the router. Even with Windoze I would have to try several time until I could get to the Linksys setup screen for configuring the router. Anyway, on to next question.

once again, not the distro, but the user.

I can't believe I'm STILL waiting for 7.2
