I am attempting to dual boot a win2k/linux system. I am using redhat right now for my linux distro, but soon will reformat to set up debian. Please advise, here is what I did so far:

1) I installed win2k, leaving part of my HD open for linux (15 gb worth of space)
2) I then attempting to istall redhat linux after... and I chose to install lilo on the MBR because I had the impression it was more friendly and would give me choices to boot win2k or linux. NOTE: I need to know how to partition the linux portion of my HD for this kind of operating enviroment. (subnote: my hardware is all compatible, so far as I can tell, with redhat linux 7.1)

Thanks for your help!

Here are some links that might help:

Partition Magic 7.0 might also be helpful.

Cheers :)

hi there!

I'm dual booting Win2k with Mandrake at the mo, but I have dual booted all sorts of things (sounds dodgy!)....anyway:

Let the installation "auto-allocate" the partitions that way it's alot easier and you have the right space for the right things. I have done it myself through "Disk Druid" but I found it easier to let the computer do the hard work!

I'm pretty new to linux, and I dont know what your level is. But bascially once linux is installed it does everything for you. All you have to do is select the OS to boot up into upon startup.

Tip: Always install windows first as it overwrites the MBR and basically says "I'm the only OS nevermind that Linux stuff". Which means you cannot easily get into linux!

hope this helps

I dual boot SuSE and Win2K. I installed Win2K first, then in the SuSE setup, I selected LILO to the MBR, and it setup the dual boot for me automatically. IIRC, RedHad did the samething.
