Hello!

I am very new to linux. After many hours of cursing Bill Gates, I have finally installed linux on my computer with XP. I have OpenOffice.org, but when I try to use it it freezes. The splash screen comes up, but that's it. It's not the OS itself, just the application.

Does anyone know how I would begin to find the problem? Where should I start?

What kind of system is it? OO.org is slooooow to load the first time.

If it is truly freezing up, I would uninstall and try to reinstall.

Do you have the latest version? It may be worth getting the most recent bug-fixes.

Your logfiles may also be telling you something. After it crashes, check the end of your /var/log/messages to see if it says anything about OpenOffice-related stuff. Might help you narrow down the problem a bit.

What window manager / desktop environment are you using? I was using Fluxbox 0.1.13 and it had a bug that caused OpenOffice to abort in the middle of its initial loading process. Upgraded to Fluxbox 0.1.14 and problem was solved.

Also, did you install OpenOffice yourself? If so, did you do the workstation install? If not OpenOffice can only be run as root. Check the Readme for details.

Thanks guys, but I fixed my problem. It was extremely slow to load, and I ran a repair.
