I was just looking at the 2.4 kernel on another system I have here, I might be wrong but from what I can tell there is absoulutly no ReiserFS support built in? I have to patch the 2.4 to get this to work? I really don't understand that since just a few days ago I read an interview with Linus in which he said he wanted it as the defualt file system. I have always had to patch 2.2.x or get a src rpm that already had it in it (like suses'), but I figured it would be there by 2.4. So does anyone know why it is not at least an option in the kernel config?

Key Word: Wanted. It will probably come in like 2.4.6 or something. Until then, hit up (suse.com ?) and get a kernel patch.

Actually, the last thing I saw from Linus on this is he expects it to be in 2.4.1. I figure realistically more like 2.4.2 or 2.4.3. Go to www.namesys.com (http://www.namesys.com) for a list of official mirrors for the patch. I think the master ftp server is ftp.reiserfs.org

ReiserFS is in bata stages perhaps that's why he did not relesed it with 2.4.0.But rest assured it will be included later on...on a side note i'd suggest to wait for updates to 2.4.0 tree as of know there's a bug in VFS under 2.4.0 which affects reiserfs when unmouning it and not saving data to root fs.Hope this helps.

I have been using ReiserFS on Mandrake 7.2 and so far works excellent. I was so pumped when I hit reset and it booted so fast.. ahhh the pleasure...
