if i were to change my file system on my windows machines from fat 32 to ntfs would i still be able to read and write files through samba?

With FAT32, you can only set permissions on the shares. With NTFS, you can set permissions on both the share and the directories/files. By default in Win2k, everyone gets full control for both the share and the file permissions. Usually it's a matter of tightening down the permissions to restrict access, not remembering to set permissions so you can access the share and file. Other than that, your Samba client won't know or care whether the files are FAT32 or NTFS. justlinux.com
