Hello all,

I searched the forum before I resorted to asking this question.

I downloaded disc1,2,&3 of the RedHat 8.0 iso files on to my Linux RedHat 7.0 system. They are located on /usr .

The /usr partition is mounted on /dev/hda5.

During the installation program, I chose to install RedHat from the hard drive and specified /dev/hda5 and /usr as the location of my iso files.

The installation program states that it cannot find a 'installation directory tree' with the above info (/dev/hda5 & /usr) .

Do I need to create CD with the downloaded ISO files or am I just making a mistake when providing the installation directory tree ?

It states in the RedHat Install docs that I can install RH 8.0 using ISO files on the hard disk. Is this correct ?

Thx
Mike

I've never tried to do what you are attempting, but it sounds to me like the installer can't get *inside* the iso images... maybe you need to mount them, or extract their contents to HD..... I know you can mount an iso like a filesystem, then perhaps you should copy everything from your mounted iso to another location on your HD... then tell the installer to look there....

Good Luck

I could be wrong, but I think you have to make a boot floppy from one of the floppy images on cd #1. I think it's the one for network install. Seems like I read that somewhere in rh's docs.

I was using the incorrect RedHat boot disk. I was using one from version 7.0 . The 8.0 boot disk allows the install program to load from .iso images. Once I downloaded the latest boot.img and ran 'rawrite' , I booted up from that disk and the install program found the iso images without a problem.

Thx for your help

Mike
